BACKGROUND: In 2008, Willie A. O'Neal, Jr. and Derek Starling created the SOL ENGINEERING SERVICES, LLC ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP (501443) for students with demonstrated interests and abilities in advancing the interests of African-Americans in the Bagley College of Engineering.

APPLICATION CRITERIA

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Candidates must meet the following criteria:

​

  • Be a full-time African-American student majoring in Civil or Industrial Engineering in the Bagley College of Engineering.

​

  • First preference shall be given to students graduating from West Lowndes High School or from a high school in the Canton Public School district, both in Mississippi.

​

  • If no qualified students meet the first preference, second preference shall be given to students who are Clay, Hinds, Lowndes, Madison or Oktibbeha county, Mississippi, residents.

​

  • If no qualified students meet the second preference, third preference shall be given to students who are Mississippi residents in any discipline in the Bagley College of Engineering.

​

  • If no qualified students meet the third preference, fourth preference shall be given to students who are out-of-state residents majoring in Civil or Industrial Engineering.

​

  • If no qualified students meet the fourth preference, fifth preference shall be given to students who are out-of-state residents in any discipline in the Bagley College of Engineering.
